Lettuce - Tennis Ball (6 pack)
Organic. Heirloom listed in Slow Food USA's "Ark of Taste" Catalog. The Ark of Taste is a living catalog of delicious and distinctive foods facing extinction.
This Bibb or Butterhead type lettuce is so easy to grow and adapts well to any garden. Long lasting plants grow well into the summer without bolting. Called Tennis Ball lettuce for its cute little 4-6 inch loose ball forming habit, these are prolific growers and so tasty! According to William Woys Weaver, tennis ball lettuces were often pickled in salt brine during the 17th and 18th centuries. This variety is documented to have been grown at Monticello by Thomas Jefferson, who noted: “it does not require so much care and attention” as other types.
